Oh, Leading Hotels of the World, WHY?

If you’ve been following my Leading Hotels of the World 19.28 room promotion obsession, surely it won’t come as a surprise to you that I have something to say about their new do-over.  That’s right – while your Miss Expatria slept, LHW posted their new rules, and they make her want to crawl back into bed.

Let’s take a look at the changes after the jump, shall we?

First off, it’s now open to everyone.  So, all of you who learned of this promotion weeks ago?  You now get to join the kabillion others who have learned of it since then, greatly decreasing your chances of actually securing one of their 6,000 rooms. (Also, if your servers couldn’t handle the ones you registered the last time, why would you think that allowing everyone to participate would improve that situation?)

Secondly, the promotion will take place on October 23 – but they’re not telling you whether or not you’ve secured a room until one week later, October 30.  The first date the promotion rooms are available? NOVEMBER 1. Talk about last minute deals! (Especially since I’m hoping to use this promotion for the elections, November 4!)

Thirdly, you have to fill out a form, and the quicker you can fill it out, the better your chances are.  Time to load up the predictive entry on your computers, boys and girls! Hope those cookies are still working!

My last gripe is purely personal, but it’s my blog so you get to hear about it: They’ve changed how to make your choices.  Instead of first chosing your ideal dates and then the hotels you’d like to stay at, you must now choose your top three hotel choices, and then two possible dates for each.

Now, this might not seem like a big deal to you.  But when they first started this promotion, I sat with a calendar and a list of participating hotels, and made a meticulous list of all possible combinations. Switching that mentality for a hotel freak like me will require a great deal of time and effort.

However, when all is said and done, I will do it.  Until I become a world-famous author of achingly precious travel memoirs, this is my only shot at staying at one of the Leading Hotels of the World. Wish me luck!

  1. something i just figured out about the whole promotion too is that it’s 6000 NIGHTS and not ROOMS, meaning that it’s 3000 ROOMS if everyone who signs up wants 2 nights, which I can’t imagine they wouldn’t.

so hrm…the last time around’s stats were 150,000 people trying to book 3000 rooms comes out to about a 1:50 chance of getting in (and that was just with the pre-registered number of people!).

i’ll probably try and get on the site on monday, but i’m not wasting 2 hrs again, and i’m not holding my breath.

    good luck to you!

  3. Anyone else find it completely insulting to the original registrants? They’ve basically alienated all 150k of us who spent lots of time registering and dealing with the various iterations of this promo by opening it up to the masses.

I’d put the chance of success at about 1-2% now with this “improved” promotion. 😦
